The annual Wards 10 Best Engines list is one of the most prestigious awards lists in the auto industry, and this year Wards recognized the 6.2-liter V8 engine found on the Chevy Silverado as one of the best engines of the 2019 model year.
All Wards 10 Best Engines must be available in a car for priced under $64,000, produced in the U.S., and that shows significant improvement over previous model years. The winners are determined by a variety of factors, from horsepower to technology to fuel economy to how loud an engine is.
Wards was so impressed with the Silverado’s 6.2-liter V8 because of its use of Dynamic Fuel Management, a technology that improves fuel economy by reducing or increasing the amount of power delivered by an engine depending on the current driving situation. DFM constantly works to determine how much power is needed and adjusts seamlessly 80 times per second, using anywhere from two cylinders to all eight.
The 2019 Silverado is the first to use Dynamic Fuel Management as opposed to Active Fuel Management, which alternates between four cylinders and eight cylinders, compared to DFM’s 17 possible cylinder modes.
With the engine’s 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, the new Silverado delivers incredible fuel economy without giving up the slightest bit of performance. Find it at Fuller Chevrolet GMC Truck.
