Teen Driver Technology Now Alerts Teens to Buckle Up

Chevrolet has been helping to protect teens on the road with Teen Driver technology. Now, Chevrolet is adding the all-new Buckle to Drive feature to Teen Driver as a way of reminding teens to fasten their seat belts before driving.

Seat belts are an important safety feature in vehicles. While it’s the law to buckle up, many people don’t, especially teens, which can be dangerous. That’s why Buckle to Drive is standard on the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado, Malibu and Traverse.

Tricia Morrow, Chevrolet safety engineer, says, “My hope is that Buckle to Drive will help guide more young drivers to wear their seat belts and encourage positive conversations among teens, their peers and parents.”

Buckle to Drive is integrated into the already-existent Teen Driver system, which lets parents monitor their teens’ driving. This allows parents to see what their teens do well and what they can improve on. With Buckle to Drive, teens are unable to shift out of park for up to 20 seconds if they don’t wear their seatbelts. Furthermore, if teens press their foot on the brake pedal before they’re buckled up, audible and visual alerts will remind them to fasten their seat belt.
