The GMC Sierra 1500 debuted a refreshed design last year, and now its big brother is next in line for an upgrade. The 2020 Sierra Heavy Duty pickup truck will feature many of the added technologies found on its smaller sibling, but with all the capability and toughness associated with the heavy-duty truck segment.
Some of these technologies included in the redesigned GMC Sierra HD are the ProGrade Trailering System, rear-camera mirror, and MultiPro six-function tailgate. Drivers who pair the exclusive trailering system with the 6.6-liter Duramax diesel engine will find their truck capable of towing up to 30,000 pounds. The engine option, mated to a 10-speed Allison transmission, churns out 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque.
More information is still forthcoming about the GMC Sierra HD. We eagerly await information on a new gasoline engine, which is reportedly on the way. A video featuring the 2020 Sierra Denali HD equipped with the fifth-wheel towing package showed it hauling a 225,000-pound, 80-foor yacht, hinting that we may see a huge increase in towing capacity in the near future.
The new GMC Sierra HD will also see the inclusion of new 2020 AT4 models, GMC’s off-road truck lineup. While the AT4 brand has been offered on the Sierra 1500 before, it will soon extend to the 2020 GMC Sierra HD.
