Everyone knows that the Chevrolet Colorado is a serious off-road beast. And everyone knows that Chevrolet is all about supporting American consumers and the American military. So, it should come as no surprise that GM is basing a brand new Infantry Squad Vehicle on the Chevrolet Colorado, and this impressive ride has specs that will get every off-road enthusiast excited.
The new infantry squad vehicle from GM Defense is based on the Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup, specifically the ZR2 Bison trim. The new vehicle will be an exceptionally capable off-road truck able to take on the toughest conditions imaginable, thanks to a combination of commercially available and entirely custom parts, such as jounce shocks, Multimatic DSSV dampers, and custom underbody skid plates.
Under the hood, the new military-grade Chevy will boast an advanced 2.8-liter diesel engine. This will be much more than just a high-powered off-road vehicle, though. The new infantry squad vehicle will be spacious enough to carry nine soldiers and plenty of military gear while cruising at high speeds. The vehicle will also need to fit into a CH-47 Chinook helicopter, be sling-loaded by a Blackhawk helicopter, and tough enough to withstand some seriously rugged terrain.
While we won’t see such an incredible vehicle on normal roads anytime soon, the US Army hopes to get about 650 of these impressive squad vehicles sometime in 2020.
