The medium-duty commercial trucks from Chevrolet were already versatile and powerful. And with new updates to the 2021 Silverado 4500 HD, 5500 HD, and 6500 HD chassis cab trucks, the most capable trucks on the road have just become even better.
Some of the things that made these medium-duty trucks impressive were their 50-degree maneuverability, the ease of maintenance thanks to their forward-tilting engines, and connectivity features like Apple CarPlay® and Wi-Fi® to make your truck into a mobile office.
The newest features for next year’s trucks include things like a new maximum gross combined weight for better hauling capacities. It will be up 23 percent from the 2020 model, jumping from 23,500 pounds to a massive 37,000 pounds. The mechanical locking rear axle will also provide better handling on loose and slippery worksite surfaces.
Extended mirror arms will help with visibility, making maneuvering of long or wide upfitted trucks easier. The new Silverados also boast upfitting updates. The shortest wheelbase models now have longer axle-to-end-of-frame options, which allow for more upfit possibilities.
The engine has some new features. An auxiliary switch bank is available for six more upfit switches. And its power take-off capabilities are accessible from the right and the left side, adding ease and convenience.
